George McMahon
George H. McMahon, 65, of 202 Knox St., Beaverton, died Saturday,
Sept. 11, in Veteran's Hospital, Saginaw, following a long illness. Born in Hay Township
on January 6, 1917, he attended Winegars School. Mr. McMahon was a veteran of World War
II serving in the Army Air Force in the European Theatre. He then became a seaman in the
Merchant Marine retiring in 1973. Mr. McMahon lived in Estero and Sebring, Fla. for seven
years before moving to Beaverton and making his home with his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Jay
(Gladys) Stone.
Besides Mrs. Stone, he is survived by 3 other sisters, Mrs. Inez Hock of Merrill, Mrs.
Agnes Howell of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Dorothy Fetterolf of Beaverton; 4 brothers, Frank of
Higgins Lake, Roy of Holiday Lake, Ill., Robert of Gladwin and Laurence of Sanford. A sister,
Mrs. Hazel Moliterno of Flint, preceded him in death.
Services were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the Mathews Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry List
officiating. A Military graveside service was by the Gladwin County American Legion Post in the
Dale Cemetery. A Veteran's Memorial service was held at the funeral home Monday at 7 p.m.
