Rev. Perry McKimmy
Eighth Anniversary
Rev. Perry McKimmy Given A Happy Birthday Surprise.
Sunday, March 3, 62 relatives and friends gathered at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Perry McKimmy,
to help celebrate his eighty-eighth birthday anniversary. The event was one long to be remembered,
all of his children being present for the occasion.
Grandpa McKimmy was born in Preston county W. Va on 1841. In 1874 he moved to Michigan and suffered
many hardships of pioneer days, raising a large family of nine children. At the age of 18, he heard the
Master call and united with the Church of the Brethren. Later he became a preacher of the gospel and
served 54 years in this cause, his companion and he driving many days to cover the distance, with a horse
and cart. His efforts were not all in vain, and his services have won for him the gratitude and friendship
of many people. Although in these declining years his health is failing, his mind is clear and keen.
To impress on his mind more clearly the sincerity of the occasion, he was presented with a beautiful
rocker and several other gifts from relatives and friends. Worth mentioning also, was the beautiful
birthday cake 16 x 19 x 5 inches, made by James Eisenlohr, baker of Beaverton, decorated in pink and white,
bearing "Father 88" in large letters and figures. Many thanks to Mr. Eisenlohr. At noon a potluck dinner
was served, to which all did justice. In the afternoon Rev. Hoover delivered a very appropriate sermon for
the occasion, after which all joined in singing an old familiar song, always enjoyed by Grandpa McKimmy,
"Blest Be the Tie That Binds," after which all enjoyed a social hour together.
Those from out-of-town who attended were his sons and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Fred McKimmy and Mr.
and Mrs. Alvin McKimmy of Blissfield, his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Corwin of Tecumseh, his
grandson and wives, Mr. and Mrs. Herby McKimmy of Toledo and Mr. and Mrs. Ora McKimmy and Mrs. Ray McKimmy
of Detroit.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Fike and daughter of Coleman also attended.
