Clara V. Hughes
Clara V. Hughes, 86, of 119 Saginaw St. Beaverton, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, in Provincial House Nursing Home, Gaylord, following a long illness. Born in Ohio Sept. 1, 1898, she had spent most of her life in Gladwin County. She retired in 1969 as a Nurse's aide at the Midland Hospital Center, Mrs. Hughes was a charter member of the Dale United Methodist Church and the V.F.W. 7304 Auxiliary.
The former Clara McKimmy, she was married to Lawrence W. Hughes in 1915 in Beaverton. He preceded her in death June 16, 1988. Surviving are 7 sons, Robert and Theodore of Beaverton, John of Gaylord, Lawrence of Detroit, Gerald of Goodrich. Maynard of Midland and James of Lansing; one daughter, Mrs. Leon (Harriet) Thurston of Midland, one sister, Mrs. Doris Horn of Beaverton; one brother David of Toledo, Ohio; 24 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
Services were held Friday at 1 p.m. from the Dale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bruce Hatch officiated and burial was in the Tobacco Township Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Hall Funeral Home.
