M-18 ACCIDENT FATAL TO BOY
LESTER MCCLURE STRUCK BY CAR MONDAY NIGHT
Lester W. McClure, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen McClure, of Gladwin, was almost instantly
killed Monday at 6 p.m. when he was struck by a car while he was crossing M-18 near the
Wodgenski farm, 2 1/2 miles north of Gladwin. Yound McClure, in company with William Lyons, 11,
of Gladwin, had hitched-hiked a ride with Clarence Neilsen, of Sanford, to the Wodgenski farm
where they planned to visit a friend, Robert Symons. According to witnesses, Mr. Neilsen stopped
to let the boys out on the east side of M-8. A car, driven by Carl F. Hoard, 20 of Shephard, was
approaching from the north. The McClure boy, coming out from behind the Neilsen machine, failed to
see the approaching car and ran across the road directly in its path.
