Peter Maxwell
Peter M. Maxwell, 62, of 71 East Schafer Rd., Hope, died Saturday, July 28, at his home. Born in Hope on February 14, 1917, he was a pipe fitter for Dow Chemical Co. and a farmer. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, president of the Alma Sugar Beet Growers Assoc., past president Ohio-Michigan Sugar Beet Growers Assoc., former Hope Township Farm Manager of the Year award form Michigan State University and gold award in FFA and a member of the Hope Methodist Church. Mr. Maxwell helped form the Meridan School system and was active in 4-H and the fair.
He was married to the former Doris F. Oliver. Besides his wife, he is survived by 4 sons, William in Massachusetts, Dirk and Scott of Hope and Clay of Beaverton; one daughter, Mrs. Paget (William) Penn of Hope; 3 brothers, George of Hope and Martin and Ernest of Midland; and 3 sisters, Mrs. Lafey Neuenburger of Hope and Mrs. Doris Blackhurst and Mrs. Donabell Secor of Midland.
Services were held Tuesday at 3 p.m. from the Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. William Gozadd and Elder Calvin Erhart officiated and burial was in Midland Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were in charge of the
