Milton Mather Jr.
Milton M. Mather Jr., 67, of 2194 Swanstra Rd., Gladwin, died Saturday,
Sept. 15, in the Midland Hospital Center following a short illness. Born in East Jordan on
Nov. 2, 1916, he came to Gladwin County in 1952, from Mt. Morris. He retired in May 1978
after 27 years with Dow Chemical Co. Mr. Mather was a 1st lieutenant and unit commander with
the 701st Tank Battalion in World War II. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church
and a member of the Gladwin Knights of Columbus. He was married to the former Fern Naumann
March 20, 1942.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Michael of Kincheloe; 2 daughters, Mrs. Bill
(Fern) Jones of Coleman and Mrs. Michael (Kathy) McKenna of Gladwin; 2 brothers, Kendall of
Grand Blanc and James Sr. of Gladwin; one sister, Mrs. Josephine Hillier of Gladwin; and 4
grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Father
Baldwin Beyer officiated and burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. A Knights of Columbus Rosary
was held Monday at 7 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home.
