Robert Malcomnson

Robert Malcomnson, 30 of Evart, who lost his life Saturday morning when his light plane crashed in a swamp shortly after takeoff. Malcomnson, a native of Beaverton and a graduate of the Beaverton school, was an agricultural teacher in the Evart schools. He left Evart early Saturday morning in a rented plane to fly to his parents' farm near Beaverton to hunt pheasants . Mrs. Malcomnson assumed that he had arrived safely at Beaverton and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Malcomnson, believed that he had cancelled his trip since they didn't hear from him . The search was started Saturday night when it was learned that he hadn't reached Beaverton . The wrecked plane was found a half-mile from the Evart airport, Sunday, in dense swamp by Michigan Civil Air Patrol planes. It was found west of the airfield, but should have been headed east on a takeoff for Beaverton. The plane apparently crashed shortly after takeoff or while attempting to get back to the field. Searchers reported the plane was on its nose in about three feet of water. State police said Malcomnson was found strapped in the seat of the plane and that he died of multiple skull fractures. Malcomnson was a graduate of Beaverton High School, Michigan State University where he received his bachelors degree in vocational agriculture in 1952 and masters degree in 1955. He later taught agriculture at the University of Michigan, Holton, Belding, Hudsonville and in Omaha, Neb., moving to Evart in 1959. Surviving are his widow, Barbara; six children, Michael, 9, David, 8, James, 6, Patricia, 4, Barbar a Diane, 2, and William 1; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Malcomnson, agriculture teacher in Alcona County schools; a brother, John, a teacher in Peck; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Cotton, of Grant. Services were to be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Evart Community Methodist Church.
