Robert Lytle
Robert Thomas Lytle was born Sept. 1, 1866, at County Victoria, Canada, living there until 17 years of age, when he moved to Grand Rapids. At the age of 22 he moved to Gladwin county, and has resided here since. Sept. 27, 1892, he was united in marriage with Mary Louise Joyce. To this union was born one child, Mahala. Death parted him and his loved companion on Feb. 8, 1915, and Sept 18, 1915, he was united in marriage with Eva Pashby, who departed this life Jan. 24, 1920. Sept. 2, 1920, he was united in marriage with Mabel Hayward, who lives to mourn his untimely death, with his aged father, John Lytle; daughter, Mahala Hayward; one brother, William of Saginaw; three sisters, Mrs. Wm. Brown, of Peterboro, Canada, Mrs. H. G. Neper of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. W. H. McCulloch of Gladwin, his step children, and hosts of friends.
He was a member of the Gladwin I.O.O.F. lodge and the Ancient Order of Gleaners. Funeral services were held at the Gladwin M. E. Church on Saturday at three o’clock, Rev. E. T. Smith officiating.
As stated briefly in the last issue of the Record, Mr. Lytle’s untimely death was caused by an explosion of dynamite; in which a large part of his body was blown from him, his head and part of the trunk only being found. He went out to blast a stump soon after noon with several sticks of dynamite and was alone at the time of the explosion, so that it is not known how the accident happened. It is thought that he may have started to examine a charge which had been placed under the stump earlier in the day and that it exploded unexpectedly.
