Joseph C. Loree
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Loree
J. C. and Amanda Loree were born in Livingston
county, Michigan, Jan. 15, 1841, and Dec. 15, 1845,
respectively. They were united in marriage March 4,
1862. The early part of their lives was spent near
Howell, Michigan. About 28 years ago they moved to
Gladwin county, locating near Hockaday. Later they
moved to the state of Missouri, remaining there for
six years. Returning to Michigan they located in
Gladwin, where they spent the last years of their
lives. They leave to mourn his loss, one son, George,
adopted in infancy. Also Mr. Loree is survived by two
half brothers of Perry, Michigan, and one half sister
of Remus, Michigan. Mrs. Loreee leaves three sisters:
Martha Vorce and Ann Vanalstine of Grand Ledge,
Michigan, and May Smith of Lansing, Michigan, also a
brother of Eagle, Michigan.
Mr. and Mrs. Loree have always been noted for their
attachment to each other which became stronger as age
came on. They had often expressed a desire that one of
them should not be taken by death and the other left.
This desire was mercifully satisfied by their Maker
and Redeemer. Mr. Loree was stricken down with
paralysis Saturday morning, Feb. 18, at 9 o'clock, the
same day about 10 o'clock p.m. she suffered a stroke
of apoplexy. Their suffering was of short duration,
for in spite of all loving hands and medical skill
could do Saturday, Feb. 25, Mr. Loree passed to his
reward; his wife following Monday, Feb. 27.
Mr. and Mrs. Loree were converted about 50 years
ago in the Methodist Episcopal church at Compton. They
leave a host of friends and relatives who will miss
them and mourn because of their loss. Services were
held at the F. M. church, Wednesday, with sermon by
the pastor Rev. W. J. Cross, assisted by Rev. E. T.
Smith.
