David Lanpierd
David L. Lanphierd, 65, of Midland, died Sunday morning, Jan. 8, 2006, at MidMichigan Stratford Village.
He was born July 26, 1940 in Midland, the son of the late Wilbur and Emma (Inman) Lanphierd. He was a 1959 graduate of Beaverton High School. Upon graduation he entered the United States Navy, having been stationed in Jacksonville, Florida and Spain aboard the aircraft carrier U. S. S. Lake Champlain out of Connecticut, the ship that picked up Alan B. Shepard during Project Gemini. He was honorably discharged in 1965. David was employed with the City of Midland Police Department for 25 years, retiring in 1992 as corporal. He was fan of the Detroit Red Wings and Nascar, an avid hunter and fisherman, having recently returned from halibut fishing in Alaska. His memberships included the Sanford United Methodist Church, NRA, The Fraternal Order of Police and Happy Diners. His extended family included his friends the "Snow" group.
He is survived by his sisters, Linda (Robert) Morse of Beaverton, Elizabeth Snover of Beaverton; nieces, Sheri Campbell of California, Robin (Gary) Merihugh of Grand Rapids, Cindy (Al) Finney of Hope, Debra (Bill) Davidson of Midland; nephews, Thomas Campbell of California, Christopher McCall of Beaverton, Cameron McCall of Cadillac; and a godson, Johnathan Boots. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Campbell in 2000, and nephews, Marlin Morse in 1994, Johnny McCall Jr., and Cory J. Snover.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006 from the Ware- Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street, Midland. Rev. Janet Larner of the Sanford United Methodist Church will officiate with interment to follow in New Hope Cemetery. David’s family received friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and will receive friends on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Midland Law Enforcement Memorial or the Sanford United Methodist Church. Full military honors will be presented by the Midland Area Veterans and the U.S. Department of the Navy.
