Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
Thomas Landon

   Thomas Duane Landon, 71, of Boyne City, died early Monday, Sept. 12, 2005 at his home after a lengthy fight with colon cancer.

   Thomas was born on Dec. 17, 1933 in Saginaw the son of Willis Clayton and Violet Marie (Methner) Landon. Tom attended Mt. Pleasant High School before entering the U.S. Army in the mid 1950s He attended Mid Michigan College and Central Michigan University. In 1976 he joined the National Guard, serving as a sergeant with the 1460th Transportation Company out of Midland. He retired from military service in May of 1990.

   Tom loved athletics, especially the game of baseball, both as a player and a coach. He coached everything from college ball to little league. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed traveling, taking trips to Germany, France, Italy, England, Alaska, Washington and Texas in his later years.

   As a businessman he owned Toms Sunoco in the mid 1960s in Beaverton. In the 1970s he started Crown Carpets and Landon’s Athletics, also in Beaverton. He remained a carpet installer throughout the rest of his career.

   During his life Tom had resided in Beaverton, Midland, Mt. Pleasant, Shepherd and Walloon Lake (Boyne City). Thomas is survived by his wife, Lenore; his children, Steven (Sherry) Landon, Terri (Henry) Sponsler, Shelly Landon and Krista Landon; seven grandchildren, Steven, Sarrah, Brock, Seth, Stacey, Nicole, and Connor; one Great grandson, Timothy; and his faithful companion, Joe Joe his Cocker Spaniel. He was preceded in death by his parents.

   A funeral ceremony was held Sept. 15, at the Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City. A graveside service was held Sept. 16 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
