Bruce Knickerbocker
Bruce G. Knickerbocker, 89, of Harrison, formerly of Mt. Morris, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007 at his home.
Bruce was born Dec. 19, 1917 in Genesee Township the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clare and Zoa (Schaefer) Knickerbocker. Zoa died shortly after Bruce was born and he was raised by his stepmother Fern (Montague).
He and Harriet L. Harmon were united in marriage April 16, 1938 in Flint. She preceded him in death March 1, 2001.
He was a charter member of Mt. Morris Community Church. He also was a well-respected contractor builder in the Flint area from 1953 through 1969. Bruce was a WWII Army veteran, serving his country proudly. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and reading a variety of literature. He was a loving father, grandfather and a mentor to others.
Left to cherish his memory are three sons, Jerry (Arlene) of Davison, Dennis of Haslett and Lynn (Barbara) of Flint; daughterin- law, Debbie Knickerbocker of California; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold and Ronald; one sister, Margaret (John) Sparkman; special friend, Dorothy Anderson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Steven; and a daughter-inlaw, Constance.
The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2007 at the Mt. Morris Community Church. Pastor Tony Alexander of Gladwin will officiate with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The Knickerbocker family will be present to greet friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday from 1-8 p.m.
On Friday, Bruce will be taken to church to lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Gladwin or Mt. Morris Community Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
