Ralph Kern

ILLNESS TAKES RALPH KERN

   Ralph W. Kern, 57, Buckeye Township farmer, died Monday at the Midland Hospital following an illness of several months. Born on April 6, 1904 in Wood County, Ohio, he came to Gladwin County in 1916 with his parents from Canada, where they had lived three years. He was married to the former Adeline Codling in Wagerville, April 27 1932. Mr. Kern was a member of the Gladwin Baptist Church and served on the church board. Survivors include his widow, Adeline; two sons, Calvin, of Beaverton, and David, at home; a daughter Mrs. Arlene Fromer, of Beaverton; his mother Lottie Kern, of Gladwin; four brothers, Harvey, of Beaverton, George, of Braduer, Ohio, James, of Pemberville, Ohio and Delbert, of Mt. Morris; six sisters, Mrs. Nellie Sampson and Mrs. Evelyn Clore, of Gladwin, Mrs. Elizabeth Warner, of Alma, Mrs. Alice Lorenz, of Flint, Mrs. Bonnie Taylor, of Valdez, Alaska, and Mrs. Carrie Whitman, of Detroit; and eight grandchildren. His brother, Walter, passed away last week.

   Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Gladwin Baptist Church. The Rev. Henry C. Hall will officiate and burial is in McClure Cemetery. Mr. Kern's nephews will serve as pallbearers and fellow members of the church board will serve as honorary pallbearers.
