Julia Kent

Julia Burket Kent, 92, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003. She was born Feb. 12, 1911, to Margaret Kilbride Merriman and Walter Burket. Walter died in 1913 and Margaret married Authur Rowley in 1915. Arthur became Julia's loving father. She was blessed with many siblings; stepbrother and sister Cecil Rowley and Marion (Rowley) Alley; brothers, Joe and Robert Burket; Phoebe (Burket) McKimmy and Lottie (Burket) McKimmy; and half brother and sister, George Rowley and Sara (Rowley) Schneider.

Julia grew up on the family farm near Gladwin. She graduated from Gladwin High School, Gladwin County Normal and Central Michigan University. She taught grade school in Gladwin School until her marriage to Millard S. "Mike" Kent on May 31, 1931. Julie and Mike lived in Billings Township in Gladwin County, and were married 67 years before Mike died in 1998. The marriage produced three children, Charlene (Richard) Brelsford of Evans, Georgia, Millard M. "Bub" (Mary Lou) Kent of Midland and William "Bill" (Joan) Kent of Beaverton.

After the children were through school Julia returned to teaching until retirement in 1970. Her life centered around family, church, community and education. She loved gardening, canning fruits and vegetables and cooking for her family. God was her copilot. She was adamant about education and wanted her children and grandchildren to obtain as much as possible. Julia's last years were spent at Tender-care in Midland where she was well cared for and loved by the caring and dedicated staff. Julia's parents and siblings are deceased.

Surviving along with her three children are grandchildren, Jennifer (Robert) Kent-Bryant, Khristopher Kent, Kraig (Teresa) Kent, Kevin (Michelle) Kent and Carter (Cassandra) Kent; and great grandchildren, Jordan, Haleigh and Benjamin Kent-Bryant; Erik, Mitchell, Noah, Karley, Makayla, Shea and Nash Kent.

Julia's family will receive friends at Hall Funeral Home, 430 S. Ross St., Beaverton on Monday, Dec. 22 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on the day of the funeral service from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23 at Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton. Burial will be in Billings Township Cemetery. Memorial offerings can be made to Billings Missionary Church, Tendercare Midland or your favorite charity.
