Joseph Kelley
INJURY FATAL IN ACCIDENT
A sage Township father of five was seriously injured in the Gladwin Hospital following an
accident about 6:20 p.m. on M-18 near Skeels Saturday. Joseph H. Kelley, 43, was thrown from
his cab-over truck after it struck a parked car on the shoulder of the highway, sheriff's officers
said. Kelley was rushed to the hospital where he died a short time later of a fractured skull,
hospital authorities said.
Officers said two cars operated by Doris Zaborowski and her husband, Richard, and a pickup driven
by Mrs. Maried Willford were parked in a row on the shoulder on the north side of the highway facing
west. Mrs. Zaborowski told them that Kelley came over a small hill from the west and his truck went
into a skid. It came across the road rear-end first and hit her car, which was between the other two
vehicles, in the left front fender forcing her car part way into the ditch.
Kelley was thrown from the truck, she said, and the truck ended up along side her car. Officers
could find no explanation why the truck went into the skid. Mrs. Zaborowski, Mrs. Willford, who was
sitting in the Zaborowski car, and Cathern Zaborowski, were not seriously injured, deputies said.
