Theophile Jantz Jr.
Theophil A. Jantz, Jr., 69, of Gladwin, formerly of Owendale, died with his loving family at his side Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005 at HealthSource of Saginaw following a four-month illness. He was born May 21, 1936 in Grant Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He moved with his family to Owendale when he was five years old. Following high school graduation, Ted joined the U.S. Army. He received an honorable discharge in 1956 following the death of his father. On June 18, 1960 he married Geraldine Amanda Hoppe at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebawaing.
Ted had been a farmer in the Owendale-Gagetown area and also worked for Michigan Sugar Company in Sebawaing for about 40 years. He retired in 1996. Following retirement, he and his loving wife moved to Gladwin. They spent their winters in Bowling Green, Florida. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Gladwin and a former member of the Owendale Lions Club. He also enjoyed traveling, spending time with his children and grandchildren and helping others as needed.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Geraldine; one son, Theophil A. Jantz III, DO, of Mendocino, California; one daughter, Tammy Lee (Paul) Childs of Middlebury, Indiana; his precious grandsons, Cameron Paul, Nathan Andrew and Ryan Patrick Childs; three sisters, Margaret (Dennis) Jarvis of Saginaw, Agnes (John) Meininger of Gladwin, and Ruth (Stan) Bentley of North Branch; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Theophil A. Jantz, and one great nephew, Nicholas Dwayne Berg.
A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Sept. 29 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 331 Clendening Road, Gladwin with Rev. Bill Winter officiating. Another service will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 30 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 800 E. Bay St., Sebewaing with Rev. Tim Verity officiating, with burial in Grant Township Cemetery, Gagetown. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. preceding both church services.
Arrangements are by Dinkel- Juengel Funeral Home Inc. in Sebewaing. Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church Building Fund, Lutheran Seminaries of Fort Wayne or St. Louis, Missouri for training future pastors.
The Jantz family would like to thank the medical staff at St. Mary’s Hospital Covenant Hospital, Select Specialities and HealthSource for the compassionate care given to Ted during his four month stay.
