Alice (Secord) Hockaday
Granddaughter of Marvel Secord Dies
Mrs. Alice Hockaday, 90, of Flint, a former Gladwin
County resident, died in Midland, Dec. 26 after a
lingering illness. Born on June 10, 1874, in Gladwin
County, she married Robert M. Hockaday, who died in
1953. She was a granddaughter of Marvil Secord, the
first white settler in Gladwin County.
Surviving are two sons, Rev. Asa Hockaday of Hope,
and Albert of Auburn; and four daughters, Mrs. Charles
(Beulah) Cross, of Flint, Mrs. O. T. (Bertha) Knappins
and Mrs. George (Anna) Loree of Hope, Mrs. Ellis
(Mabel) Campbell of Caro; 18 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchidlren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 1:30
p.m. from the Roosevelt Avenue Free Methodist Church,
Flint, with the Rev. Carl W. Koerner and Rev. E. E.
Walling officiating. Burial was in the Ridge Cemetery
in Gladwin.
