James Hixenbaugh
James E. Hixenbaugh, 63, of 1347 Lake View Dr., Gladwin, died Monday at
Saginaw Veterans Hospital following a long illness. Born in Morgantown, W. Va., on August
7, 1919, he moved to Michigan as a child and to Gladwin County in 1980. Mr. Hixenbaugh worked
13 years for Lapeer General Hospital until retiring in 1980. He was married to the former
Marie Woodbury on May 11, 1955.
Beside his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, James of Indiana and John of Gladwin; 2 daughters,
Mrs. Sandy Manard of Escanaba and Mrs. Dave (Sharon) Wood of Flint; 2 step-sons, Tom Lefler of
Indiana and Lynn Smith of Colorado; one brother, Oliver of St. Helen; 4 sisters, Mrs. Eleanor
Marsh and Mrs. Doris Padget of National City, Mrs. Wanda Blake of Mt. Morris and Mrs. Betty Fahr
of Gaines; 20 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Two brothers preceded him in death.
Rites were held today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. from the Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Miles
officiated and burial was in the Ridge Cemetery.
