AWARD AIR MEDAL TO SGT. HANNA
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hanna, of Gladwin, were among 13 next of kin of Michigan Army Air
Forces heroes who received decorations for feats of their fighting men at a cermony at the
Post Gymnasium at Selfridge Field Saturday at 5 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Hanna received the Air Medal
in behalf of their son Sgt. Leslie J. Hanna, who has been reported killed in action over occupied
Europe. The citation accompanying the medal reads as follows:
"The Air Medal was awarded Sgt. Leslie J. Hanna for exceptionally meritorious achievement while
participating in five separate bomber combat missions over enemy occupied Continental Europe. The
courage, coolness and skill displayed by Sgt. Hanna upon these ocassions reflect great credit upon
himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
"Sgt. Hann having mad the supreme sacrifice in defense of his country, presentation of the Air
Medal is made to his father, Frank P. Hanna, of Gladwin." The presentation was made by Col. Bradford
A. Shaw, base commander, Selfridge Field personnel and the 525th AAF Band participated in the ceremony.
