Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
Horace Griffin

   Horace E. Griffin, 91, of Gladwin passed away at home on May 31, 2007 after a long illness He was born in Gladwin on March 14, 1916 to Ernest and Margueritte (Rinehart) Griffin.

   Horace graduated from County Normal in the 1930s. He taught school at Smith Creek School in Gladwin. He retired as a shipping clerk at Dow Corning-Midland in 1981.

   He had been a lifetime resident of Gladwin County. Horace was also a member of Gladwin First United Methodist Church; a Justice of the Peace from 1937- 1940; Grout Township clerk from 1940-1957; Grout Township supervisor from 1957-1973; and Gladwin County Drain commissioner from 1973-1981.

   Horace married Faith Anderson on Nov. 20, 1943 in Gladwin He is survived by his wife, Faith; one son, Gregory (Michelle) Griffin of Gladwin; one daughter, Kathe (Steve Wieczorek) Martin of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Ruth Hoesli of Gladwin; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews He is predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Judith; and two brothers, Donald and Willis Griffin.

   Funeral services were held on Monday, June 4, 2007 at First United Methodist Church in Gladwin with Pastor Lynn Chappell officiating. Horace was laid to rest in Grout Township Cemetery in Gladwin. Memorial contributions can be made to Gladwin First United Methodist Church or Hospice of Gladwin.
