Helen Garner
Helen I. Garner, 86, of Gladwin and formerly of Sanford, died Thursday, April 6, 2000 at Gladwin Living Centre following a lingering illness.
Born Feb. 13, 1914 in Gladwin, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Winnie (Harrold) Codling.
Helen married Roy Garner, Nov. 21, 1970. He preceded her in death in January 1997.
She was a retired chief operator for Michigan Bell Telephone Company after 40 years of service. She was a member of the Sanford United Methodist Church. Her nieces and nephews cared for helen for the past two and one-half years in the Midland, Sanford, and Gladwin areas.
She is survived by eight nieces, nice nephews, four stepchildren: Sally and husband Arnold Bertram, Melody and husband Dennis Caney, Joe and wife Betty Garner, and Doug and wife Prudy Gardner; one brother, Floyd and wife Maxine Codling of Sheridan; 15 step grandchildren; and 33 step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sister.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sisson Funeral Home with Rev. David Winter officiating. Burial was in Midland Memorial Gardens.
