Hazel L. Frye
Hazel L. Frye, 85, of Gladwin, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000 at Gladwin Pines Nursing Center following a lingering illness.
Born Christmas Day 1914 in Gladwin County, she was the daughter of the late William and Pearl (Hooker) Shell.
She was formerly married to the late Harold J. Frye.
She was a teacher and taught at the Hockaday School, The White Brick School, Rau School in West Branch, and the Truesdell School in Canton. She also worked for the Office of Economics Opportunity, and was a census worker.
Surviving are four sons, Marvin and wife Pat, Rodney and wife Gerry, and Gregory and wife Kim, all of Gladwin, and Elton and wife Linda of Beaverton; two daughters, VaLois and husband Irving Burns of Gladwin and Vana and husband Joseph Haley of Birch Run; one brother, Donald Shell of Gladwin; 18 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two children, Natalie Gaynor and B. Jerry Frye; two sisters, Valda Greer and Verona Bonnie Ault; and one brother, Grant Shell.
Services were held Friday at the Sisson Funeral Home with the Rev. Mary Schuetz officiating. Burial was in Ridge Cemetery.
