BEAVERTON WELL DRILLER ELECTROCUTED
A 55-year-old Beaverton man was electrocuted while working at a farm in Isabella County Friday morning. Dale DeLos Freeman of 4893 S. Jones Rd., Beaverton, was killed instantly when the water well rig he was operating came in contact with a high tension power-line, said Isabella County Sheriff's officers.
Freeman, owner of Freeman Well Drilling Co. in Beaverton, was drilling with the rig at 9635 N. Summerton Rd. Friday morning when a derrick on the machine hit a Consumers Power Co. electrical service line, said Sgt. Frank Stevens of the Isabella County Sheriff's Department.
Freeman was reworking the well at the farm with a co-worker, George Croll, 52, of Grant Rd. when the accident happened about 10 a.m. Croll told deputies he was shocked and felt some of the surge, but was not injured. The sheriff's department was summoned at 10:11 a.m. and an Isabella County medical examiner pronounced Freeman dead at the scene.
"The victim was killed instantly when the derrick touched the high line." Stevens said. "He was grounded and working the controls on the rig when the accident happened." Stevens noted the power line was a transmission line carrying about 4,800 volts of electric power.
