Joseph Fortner
JOSEPH FORTNER
Joseph Fortner, 80, of Gladwin, died Friday, April 8, 1994, in the Gladwin Nursing Home after a long illness. Born in Hoboken, N.J., on Dec. 14, 1913, he had spent most of his life in Gladwin County. Mr. Fortner worked at the First State Savings Bank of Gladwin for many years and retired from Robinson Industries in 1979. He served in the Army during World War II and wa a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Gladwin County V.F.W. Post.
Mr. Fortner and the former Mary Ruth Paxton were married Aug. 10, 1941, in Gladwin. She preceded him in death in May 1988. Surviving are one son, Dennis of Prescott; one daughter, Jane Baumann of Remus; 3 sisters, Elizabeth Fortner of Gladwin, Ann Strouse of Hammond, Ind. and Emma Mica of Santa Anna, Calif.; and one brother, Fred of East Tawas.
Services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel with the Rev. Deane Wyllys officiating. .
