James Flood, for many years a resident of Grout
township, Gladwin county, and a veteran of the Civil
war, died at his home in Park Rapids, Minn., Friday
April 7, of heart failure. James Flood served as a
private in Company C Second Nebraska cavalry. He was
born in Daro, Can., April 25, 1839. He has been in
poor health for several years yet managed to get
about. On the morning of his death he arose, ate his
breakfast and went out to get some wood. He came into
the house. His aged wife heard him breathing heavily
and she went to him and assisted him to a couch. She
was alone in the house with him. Seeing he was dying
she summoned some carpenters who were working near. A
doctor was called but life had fled.
