Brooks Epley
LONG ILLNESS FATAL TO BROOKS EPLEY
Brooks Epley, 73, passed away at his home in Gladwin on Saturday, January 2, following
eight years in ill health. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon from the Hall
Funeral Home. The Rev. Truman Lowell, of the Assembly of God, officiated and burial was made
in Highland cemetery. Mr. Epley, a retired lumberman, was born in Cedar Lake on January 3,
1880, and has been a resident of Gladwin county since 1885. He was married to Zelpha V. Smallwood
on July 2, 1919, in Gladwin. He served with the 28th Divison in Europe during World War I.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, William P. Epley of Gladwin and Robert E. Epley of El Cajon,
California; one brother, William Epley, of Harrison; and a sister, Mrs. Lydia Scott, of Beaverton.
One son, John, preceded his parents in death. Members of the Gladwin Veterans of Foreign Wars acted
as pallbearers. Mr. Epley was a charter member of the local organization.
