John Elmore
John S. Elmore, 89, of Hope died Sunday evening, May 29, 2005 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Nov. 8, 1915 in Hope, son of the late Sherman and Emma (Leuenberger) Elmore. On June 6, 1938 he married his lifetime sweetheart Anna Mae Aspell. John graduated from Edenville High School. He served as a Marine in World War II. During the housing boom following the war, he worked as a carpenter. he continued in that employment for over 20 years. He was appointed postmaster for the Hope Post Office holding that position for 17 years before retiring. John and Anna Mae spent the past 28 winters in Holiday, Florida. His greatest joy came from the time he shared with his close and loving family. He was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church of Hope.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Anna Mae; four children, William (Charlotte) Elmore, Joan (Larry) Wint, and Linda Wendt, all of Hope, and Terry Border of Lansing; seven grandchildren, Karen Ropp, Karmen Wint, Scott Elmore, Chris Elmore, Cassie Thelen, Meko Price and Heather Borden; eight Great grandchildren with two more expected soon; and his sister, Barbara Draves of Edenville. He was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Elmore and sisters Annabelle Shellenberger and Marylou Waskiewiez.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 2 at Hope United Methodist Church, 5278 N. Hope Road in Hope. Pastor Patrick R. Poag will officiate. Interment will be in New Hope Cemetery. John’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St. on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Hope United Methodist Church, MidMichigan Hospice, or Visiting Nurses Association.
