Levi Eldridge
DEATH OF LEVI ELDRIDGE.
Levi Eldrage, the first permanent resident of
Billings township, died in that township Saturday,
June 2, after a serious illness, aged 74 years. Mr.
Eldrage was a native of New York state, and came to
Michigan with his family 33 years ago. He served in
Co. C of the 11th Mich, Calvary. He homesteaded a
soldier's claim in Billings 52 years ago, and cleared
a farm thereon. His wife died 5 years ago, and five
children survive them, and five are dead.
Funeral services were held at the Billings
schoolhouse Monday, and were largely attended. Ten
comrades of the G.A.R. were present, and the following
acted as pall bearers: E. Robbins, H. Mayhew, Fred
Burton, John Gransden, John and Richard Arnce. An
appropriate sermon was preached by Rev. Phillip
Hooper, of Edenville, and the remains were interred by
the side of the wife of deceased in Edenville
cemetery.
