Claire Edick
Claire R. Edick, 80, well known retired Gladwin rural mail carrier, died
Monday, Feb. 16, in the Clare Osteopathic Hospital following a short illness. Born in Standis
on January 9, 1896, he lived in Gladwin County since he was a child. Mr. Edick was a rural mail
carrier out of the Gladwin Post Office for 41 years until retirement in 1961. He was a veteran
of World War I and participated in the St. Mihiel and Meuse Argonne offensive. He was a member
of the Gladwin World War I Veterans Barracks 3421, the Gladwin I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 177 and the
Gladwin Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3292.
Mr. Edick and the former Esther Hayward were married on October 4, 1919, in Gladwin. She preceded
him in death on August 21, 1973. Surviving are one daughter (Emogene) Stickel of Gladwin; two sons,
Lawrence and Richard of Gladwin; four brothers, Rex of Bay City, Victor of Midland, Everett of Gladwin
and Melvin of DeLano, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Winifred Jadle of Fullerton, Calif.; six grandchildren
and four great grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Mathews Funeral Home.
The Rev. Carl Briggs will officiate and burial will be in the Highland Cemetery.
