Mrs. Oscar R. Dow
MRS. OSCAR R. DOW {HELEN (DOLLOFF) DOW}
COUNTY PIONEER PASS EIGHTY-EIGHTH BIRTHDAY
Mrs. O. R. Dow, formerly of Gladwin and now of Bad
Axe, celebrated her 88th birthday last Wednesday.
Although she now lives in Bad Axe, Mrs. Dow is
well-known in Gladwin, where she lived until five
years ago when her husband was hurt in an auto
accident and they moved to the southern part of the
state to live with their son, Bert L. Dow.
Mr. and Mrs. Dow came to Michigan from Maine more
than 70 years ago. Mr. Dow cleared much land in
Gladwin county and eventuall settled with his wife on
a farm in Grout township which for years was a halfway
stop for the Gladwin-Loomis stage coach line which Mr.
Dow operated for many years.
The picture which appears in connection with this
article is a recent one. Mrs. Dow is still able to
care for herself and enjoys hearing from her old
neighbors and friends.
