Frank Dow Killed By Gun
Accidentally Exploding while Hunting Wednesday Near Pratt's Lake - - -
Body Guarded By Faithful Dog When Found - - - Load From Two Barrels Enters His Neck
Frank Dow was found dead in the woods on the north side of Pratt's lake Wednesday, with
a gunshot wound through his neck, and a double barreled gun by his side. The body was
discovered by a passerby who was attracted by a dog which was guarding the body, refusing to
allow any person to approach it. The discovery was reported to Coroner M. H. Wright from the
nearest telephone, at L. F. Latta's. It was dusk when Mr. Wright and R. E. Stuart arrived on
the scene, and succeeded in removing the body to the home of deceased, across the lake. The
gun was no doubt accidentally exploded, perhaps by the dog, when it had been set down, charges
from both barrels taking effect and producing instant death.
Investigation this morning developed nothing further. He went out rabbit hunting in the
morning of the fatal day. Mr. Dow was a son of Mr. and Mrs O. R. Dow, and had been a lifelong
resident of Gladwin county. He served in the Philippine war, and was perhaps 50 years old. He
leaves a wife and young daughter.
