Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
William Douglas

   William R. Douglas, 93, of Ocala, Florida passed away at his home on Jan. 19, 2008 following a long illness.

   He was born in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada on Sept. 22, 1914 to John and Anna (Draginis) Douglas.

   He was employed as a mechanic for United Air Conditioning in Largo, Florida, retiring in 1984. He served in the United States Army in World War II. He has lived in Florida since 1961, previously residing in Midland and Gladwin. He was a 50 year member of St. Ignace Moose Lodge #999.

   William married Betty Ann Cassity on June 4, 1949 in Gladwin.

   He is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Douglas of Ocala, Florida; sister- in-law, Mary Stuhr of Rhodes; very special friends, Mary and Paul Offenbecker of Billings Township; niece, Carol Ann Liegib of Midland; and many other nieces and nephews.

   Pallbearers were David Grove, Wayne Grove, James Mawhorter, Bill Mawhorter, Kevin Green and Norman Stuhr. Honorary Pallbearers were Paul Offenbecker and Jerry Mawhorter.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters; and three brothers.

   Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 24 at Hall- Kokotovich Funeral Home in Gladwin with Rev. David Sprang officiating. He will be laid to rest in Billings Township Cemetery in Gladwin. A graveside service was held with military honors.

   Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
