Marion June Doty
Our world is blessed with another angel. Marion June Doty departed her earthly bonds on Sept. 22, 2007.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Marion, a first generation Scottish descendant was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on June 18, 1925 to Arthur and May Waltz and was the fifth of their eight children.
At the age of 16, Marion became a licensed hair dresser and owned her own salon in Marshall, Michigan during the late 1940s and early 50s. Later, she opened another salon in Gladstone, Michigan and became well known for her expertise in hair fashions.
On March 21, 1952, she married Leslie Bauman in Battle Creek. Three years later they moved to the Upper Peninsula, had a daughter, Suzanne, and a son, Brace, and they lived out the remainder of their 33 years of married life. Leslie passed away March 7, 1986.
Marion was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Stars, Parent Teachers Association, Women’s Bowling League of Gladstone and volunteered for many years at the alternative education facility in Escanaba, Michigan, as well as a hospital in Naples, Florida.
Marion married a lifelong friend, Vernon Doty, on July 15, 1994.
They did a lot of traveling and at one time spent their winters in Bonita Springs, Florida. One of the family’s greatest blessings was having them build a home in Sugar Springs, taking part in countless family gatherings at her daughter Suzi’s home.
Marion’s survivors include Suzanne (Bill) Shellenbarger, Brace (Susan) Bauman; stepdaughters, Pam (Mark) Chilton of Battle Creek and Sherri (Rodger) Greenway of Grand Rapids and their families; grandchildren, Danial (Heather) Murphy, Sara (Kirt) Hooten, Jessica (Larry) Davis and Mariah Bauman, Liza (Scot) Shellenbarger and Billy (Kristen) Shellenbarger; six great-grandchildren, Aidan and Ryan Murphy, Cole and Jackson Hooten, and Nicholas and Lyndsey Davis; brothers, Bill, Bob (Cindy) and George (Mary Jean) Waltz; sister, Mardelle Hawthorne; and sister-in-law, Thelma (Rusty) Stewart; as well as many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Arthur and Eber; and one sister, Elizabeth Waltz, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held 5 p.m. today, Sept. 26, 2007 at the Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home in Gladwin.
