Edna Dombroske
Edna M. Dombroske, 89, of Midland, died Thursday, June 23, 2005 at her home.
She was born June 25, 1915 in Detroit, the youngest of four children of Ferdinand and Gottliebe (Fischer) Poelk. She was educated and graduated from Zion Lutheran School and also attended Detroit Public Schools. For many years she was employed in the Bakery Department of Fred Sanders Confectionary Co. Her job included cake decorating and office work.
On July 17, 1943 she married Gustave "Gus" Dombroske of Gladwin. They resided in the Oberlin area of Gladwin County for 25 years. She worked in the Gladwin Hospital office. They moved to Midland in December 1968 and lived there since then. She was a MidMichigan Medical Center employee/retiree, having served as secretary of the School of Practical Nursing until it closed. She then worked in the Family Practice Center office until retirement. She was a member of the Lord of New Life Lutheran Church of Midland, the Lutheran Fellowship Association of Bay City, and a life-member of the Northwest Michigan Engine Club of Buckley.
She loved to travel and accompany her husband to auction sales, antique festivals and engine shows. Her home interests were in baking, cake decorating, sewing, quilting and many crafts. She also enjoyed their perennial flower garden and feeding wild birds.
She is survived by her devoted husband Gus of 61 years; several nieces and nephews and many friends. She also leaves her special loyal friend, Evelyn Bogda of Illinois, who she met while attending camp in early childhood. She was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Bertha Kalis Schroeder and Flora Poelk Steffe; and one brother, Frederick Poelk. Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. on June 26 at the Lord of New Life Lutheran Church in Midland. Vicar Kurt Eichinger officiated. Burial took place at 11 a.m. Monday at Glen Eden Memorial Cemetery in Livonia. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Lord of New Life Church.
