George Dennings
George Dennings, 79, of 434 N. Silverleaf Street, Gladwin, died Tuesday,
February 27, at the Gladwin Area Hospital. A resident of Gladwin County for 73 years, Mr.
Dennings was born in Mark township, Defiance County, Ohio, March 27, 1893. He came to Gladwin
County with his parents at the age of seven. He served in the U.S. Army, World War I, as a Pfc.
from Sept. 4, 1917 until May 28, 1919. He was with the Army of Occupation in France, the 126th
Abulance Company during his enlistment.
Following his discharge, he returned to Gladwin and that fall married the former Lonia Leininger
in West Branch on October 19, 1919. They farmed at their place on Shell Road in Gladwin Township
until moving to Gladwin City in 1969.
Survivors are his wife Lonia; two sons, Gordon Dennings of Swartz Creek, and Carl German of
Warren; one sister, Mrs. Hattie Raymond of Gladwin; and four grandchildren. Services were held
Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home with the Rev. Byron Hatch officiating and burial was
in Ridge Cemetery.
