James Day Jr.
U.S Army Captain James Raymond Day Jr., 34, of Fountain, Colo. and formerly
of Gladwin, died Monday, Jan. 31, after being struck by a truck in Castle Rock, Colo. Born in
Detroit on April 2, 1942, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army in June 1964 following
his graduation from Michigan State University. Capt. Day was in the service for 10 years and had
spent two tours in Vietnam. He was stationed at Ft. Carson, Colo., now. Capt. Day and the former
Edith Barath were married on September 8, 1962, in Wayne.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 7 children, Christopher, Susand, Jimmy, David, Colleen, Michael
and Steven, all at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Day Sr. of Gladwin; 3 brothers, Frank of Wayne
County, Dennis of Fenton and Norman of Farwell; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Nora Tucker of Midland and Linda
Day of Standish.
Services were held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Sacred Heart Church in Gladwin. The Rev. Father Joseph
Castanier officiated and burial was in the McClure Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Mathews
Funeral Home.
