Philander David
Philander David was born June 16, 1846 in Danby Township, Ionia
County and departed this life July 23, 1927 at the age of 81 years one month and
seven days. In March 1864 he enlisted in Company C. 2nd Michigan Infantry, at
Portland and was wounded June 1864 at Weldon Railroad by a gun shot through the
left lung breaking a rib in two places. He was honorably discharged in June 1865
at Whitehall hospital. Pa. In January 1866 he was united in marriage to Mary
Davenport of Danby. To this union were born five children. George, Almond and
Carrie, who died in early childhood, Iva and Maud, who reside near Mulliken. Mrs.
David departed this life August 13, 1908. The following year he was united in
marriage to Frances Austin of Grand Ledge who departed this life Jan. 17, 1926.
He has been a resident of Mulliken the past 38 years. He leaves two daughters,
Mrs. Iva Strong and Mrs Maud David[sic], of this place, 12 grand children, three
great grand children and two brothers, Alfred of Ionia and Frank of Hastings and
one sister, Mrs Jane Guilford of this place to mourn their loss.
