OBITUARY
Garnett Crumpacker was born Nov. 22, 1829 in Clark county, Ohio. Died Nov. 22, 1899, aged 70 years. Was married to Mary A. Arehart, of Harding county, Ohio, on the 29th day of June 1856. Into their union were born seven children. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss, two of his children having passed away before him. He joined the 45th O.V.I. at Ridgeway, Ohio. He went to Ontario in 1862, and was gone three years. He joined the Missionary Baptists when a young man, some few years before he was married. He was a faithful follower in the belief. He preached to his comrades whenever it was convenient for him. His daily life was a Christian lesson and gave example to all who knew him. He was a faithful attendant to our Sunday-school and was teacher of the Bible class ever since the Sunday school started, and that is two years ago. He will be sadly missed. He was liked by everyone--always had a smile and a pleasant, cheerful word fo r everyone. He belonged to the G.A.R. post in West Mansfield, Ohio. He was in Company I. Old Soldiers served as pallbearers. His remains were laid to rest in Tobacco cemetery on Sunday, Nov. 26, 1899, and a large number of friends followed his remains to their last resting place. A great many floral pieces were given by friends. He preached the gospel 36 years. Was an ordained minister a part of that time. He moved from Mt. Victory, Ohio, in 1829, to Edenville, Midland county, Mich., where he resided, then moving to Hope township, and afterwards moved to Tobacco township, Gladwin county, living there five years. His last days with us were full of fun and mirth. He ate a hearty supper and retired early, and his sons on returning from church notied heavy breathing. On going to him they tried to rouse him, but he never showed signs of knowing them, and soon was gone. The doctor said it was apopolexy. Source: .
