William Cripps Sr.
William A. Cripps, 86, of 6049 Round Lake Rd., Gladwin, died Thursday, June 1,
in the Tolfree Memorial Hospital, West Branch. Born in Deckerville, on October 22, 1894, he came
to Gladwin County in 1896. He farmed in the Hockaday area and then in Sherman Township and also
worked for the Gladwin County Road Commission for several years. Mr. Cripps served in the Army in
World War I from September 22, 1917 to August 4, 1919. He saw action in France and Germany. He was
a member of the World War I Barracks 3421. He and the former Myrta Allen were married on March 7,
1917, in Gladwin.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 sons, William and Garlen of Gladwin and Don of Corunna: 3
daughters, Mrs. Clayton (Arlene) Wray and Ila Farrow of Gladwin and Mrs. Jack (Neva) Vaughn of Flint;
one brother, Fern of Gladwin; one sister, Mrs. Rose Ockerman of Gladwin; 24 grandchildren; 33 great
grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Services were held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Shoaff
officiated and burial was in the Ridge Cemetery.
