David Cowell
RITES HELD for EX-MERCHANT
David P. Cowell, 83, well known Beaverton merchant, died suddenly at his home Friday evening after suffering a heart attack.
He was born January 27, 1869, at Ogden Center, Mich., and married the former Miss Saloma McKimmy October 30, 1890, at Ogden
center. He came to Beaverton in 1909 where he had resided since.
He was employed as a farmer and carpenter for many years. Before his retirement, about 12 years ago, he operated the D-X gas
and service station and a grocery store. He was a former member of the Beaverton board of education, serving for 12 yeas, and
was a member of the Church of the Brethren. He was always interested in community and civic affairs.
Surviving are his widow; two sons, Perry and Ray, former sheriff of Gladwin county; five grandchildren and five great
grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Monday, at 2 p.m., from the Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Ernest
Johnson, pastor of the Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Ernest Johnson, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was in
Dale cemetery. Serving as pall bearers were Loren McKimmy, Ellis McKimmy, Paul McKimmy, J. Ray McKimmy, Ottomer McKimmy and
Bob Hughes.
