Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
John Councell

   John A. Councell, 79, of Clare, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004 at the Mid Michigan Medical Center in Clare. He was born in Gladwin on April 13, 1925, the son of Keith and Beatrice (Campbell) Councell. John served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during WWII. He married Patricia Connelly on June 9, 1946 in Gladwin. He had been a licensed building contractor with Councell & Sons in the Detroit area prior to moving to the Clare area in 1968. John served as the City of Clare and Grant Township Building Inspector and Code Enforcer for 24 years. The city of Clare declared Dec. 22 as the John Councell Day. He was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Clare, the VFW Pettit-Kapplinger Post in Clare and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed going to the casino and playing cards with friends and family.

   John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia; his children, Carol Viazanko of Novi, Sharon Wainman of Farwell, Cindy (Greg) Rank of Lake, John P. Councell of Okemos and Tammy (Dennis) Easlick of Farwell; 14 grandchildren and 10 Great grandchildren; a sister, Vera Parker of Gladwin; his brothers, Frank Councell of Live Oak, Florida, Bob Councell of Grand Rapids, and Bill Councell of Traverse City; seven step brothers and sisters; and his step-mother, Alma Rau of Gladwin. He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Timothy A. Councell on Aug. 17, 1982; four brothers, Rolland, Eldon, Graham and Tom Councell; one sister, Carmen Olin; and his step-sister, Ruby Briggs.

   Funeral services were held Dec. 22 at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Clare with Father Joe Ryan officiating. Burial was in the St. Cecilia Cemetery in Clare. The Clare VFW handled the military service at the cemetery.
