Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
Wanita Cook

   Wanita Mary Cook, 81, of Gladwin passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007 after a short illness at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.

   She was born on July 10, 1926 in Midland to George and Bertha (Long) Wylie. She married Duane Cook on Aug. 23, 1947 in Auburn, Michigan.

   She was a secretary for Dow Chemical in Midland, retiring in 1982. She had lived in Gladwin County for 31 years, previously residing in Midland.

   She was a member of Gladwin Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, Rifle River Quilt Guild and Wagerville Methodist Church. Wanita was the All State President of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary post #11256, a Girl Scout leader for 20 years, State Champion Mid Michee Bowman and president of Sugar Springs Women’s Golf Association.

   She was a very talented seamstress and quilter. Wanita dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and scrapbooking and stamp collecting. She was very active, loved nature and loved life.

   She is survived by her husband, Duane Cook of Gladwin; three daughters, Karen (Mark) Weber of Bloomfield Hills, Glenna (Stephen) MacDonald of Holt, Brenda (Bob) Hove of Ithaca; one son, Steven (Susan) Cook of Farmington; eight grandchildren, Jill, Kristen, Amy, Christopher, Neil, Kevin, Steven and Amanda; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Ella; one sister, Allegra (Robert) Smith of Hemlock; one brother, Calvin (Marie) Wylie of Midland; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, and one brother, Oliver Wylie.

   Funeral Services were conducted Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home in Gladwin with Rev. Mary Shipley officiating. She was laid to rest in Midland City Cemetery, Midland.

   Memorial contributions may be made to Gladwin V.F.W. Post #11256 Ladies Auxiliary, Wagerville Methodist Church or Gladwin Hospital Auxiliary.
