Norbert Conley

Norbert “Norm” Leo Conley, 63, of Osage, Wyoming, a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away Nov. 17, 2005 after an unexpected illness.

Norm was born in New Lothrop, Michigan on March 13, 1942 to Genevieve and James Conley, Jr. He graduated from Chesaning High School in 1960. In 1964, he married Jeannie Gregor.

Their sons, Jeff, Jim, John and Jason blessed their lives. He spent 28 years working for Dow Chemical in Midland. Later in life, Norm found his soul mate, Margie Rumminger. They married in 1998 and settled in Gillette, Wyoming for seven years, then moved to their dream home outside of Osage, Wyoming in the beauty of the Black Hills. There, Norm could watch wild turkeys, deer and elk from his deck and take his grandchildren through the rocks and trees to find caves and build “forts.”

Norm spent the last several years enjoying life in Wyoming and Michigan, where he cherished the beauty of God’s creation in the land and the wildlife. Norm was an avid fisherman and hunter. Those whom he has left behind will forever have fond memories of days with Norm in the outdoors. Whether it was on a lake catching trout, the shore of a stream with a fishing rod in his hand, gazing out on a plain looking for that elusive big buck, or helping out on somebody’s ranch with any type of work to be done, Norm breathed the air outside with a passion.

Norm was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Lavern, Phil and Bernard Conley. Surviving are his wife, Margie Conley of Osage, Wyoming; sons, Jeff (Kerreen) Conley of Belleville, Jim (Jody) Conley of Beaverton, John (Judy) Conley of Clinton, and Jason Conley of Midland; brothers and sisters, Ray (Marge) Conley of Chesaning, Harold (Jean) Conley of Saginaw, Marion (Jim) Birchmeir of Beaverton, Iolene Rathbun of Eagle River, Alaska, Eleanor (Vince) Birchmeir of Chesaning, Carolyn (Dean) Fulton of Chesaning, Loretta (John) Locke of Brand; and Ruth Conley of Brand. Margie’s children, Dave (Sherri), Gina (Jef), Sandy (Jeff) and Kevin loved Norm very much and their children knew him from a very early age as Pappa Norm. Norm’s seven grandsons (Austin Conley, Eli and Alex Sutherland, Chad, Devin and Kyle Aldridge, and Ben Rumminger) will be raised knowing Pappa Norm as a warm and kind man who would do anything to help others. We will miss you Norm.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church in Coleman. Calling hours will be held at the church prior to services from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Memorials and condolences may be sent in Norm’s name to the St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church, 5199 Schafer Road, Coleman, MI 48618. Local arrangements were handled by the O’Laughlin Funeral Home, Inc., Coleman.
