William Cone
William E. Cone, 59, of 1900 S. Hay Rd., Beaverton, died Saturday, March 6,
in Saginaw Veterans Hospital following a short illness. Born in Wayne County on April 17, 1922,
he moved to Gladwin County in 1970 from Plymouth. Mr. Cone retired in 1977 as a welder-fitter in
steel fabrication. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW Post 7303, American
Legion Post 171 and the Loyal Order of Moose 2051, West Branch. Mr. Cone was married to the former
Lorene Downey June 12, 1971, in Gladwin.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 sons, Danny of Detroit, Ronald of Gladwin and Billy of
Coleman; 3 daughters, Mrs. Dale (Diane) Gower of Farewell, Mrs. Marty (Dorothy) Mathews of Harrison
and Robin of Texas; one brother, Elmer of Gladwin; 2 sisters, Mrs. Addie Hammond of Newhaven and Mrs.
Violet Anderson of Boyne City; and 9 grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel. The Rev. Carter
Miller officiated and burial was in the Rhodes Cemetery.
