James Colbeck Sr.
James Colbeck, Sr., one of the early pioneers of Billings township, died April 1, 1922, at his home in Beaverton, aged 91
years, 9 months and 3 days. Mr. Colbeck was born in Fathwell, Lincolnshire county, England, til the age of 22 years, when he
became a resident of Canada, living there until 1881, when he came to Gladwin county and settled on a farm in Billings
township, and with the help of his family made there a fine farm.
In 1891 he retired from the farm and moved to the city of Beaverton, there to reside until his death. In Canada he married
Lucinda Lee, and six years after coming to Michigan she died, and in 1891 he married Margaret Kennedy Rogers. He leaves to
mourn his loss his widow, four sons, six daughters, 36 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildrn. Interment took place in
Edenville cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. G.H. Killian.
