GEORGE POMEROY COBB (ABT 1841 - 30 APRIL 1913)
COBB
Hon. George Pomeroy Cobb died April 30 at his home
in Bay City, at the age of 72 years, of heart failure.
He was the second judge to occupy the bench in Gladwin
county from 1887 to 1893, the counties of Arenac,
Gladwin and Bay then forming the eighteenth judicial
circuit.
Judge Cobb was a native of New York state and was
reared on a farm. In 1855 he came to Michigan with his
parents, and taught school, 1860 - 1865, at Macon, Ann
Arbor, Salem, Superior and Pittsfield. In 1865 he
enlisted in the 5th Michigan volunteer cavalry, and
was transferred to the 7th Mich. reg., and discharged
at Camp Douglass, Utah, having accompanied the
expedition sent across the plains riding an old
cavalry horse 1200 miles. In 1868 he graduated from
the law department of the U. of M., since which time,
he praticed law in Bay City, except during the years
he was circuit judge. He was also active in G.A.R.
circles, and a member of the Presbyterian church.
