George Cave
George Cave died Dec. 24, 1921 at the home of his
son, Leo Cave, in Grout township. He was born in
Jackson county, Michigan, Aug. 2, 1847. He has been an
invalid for 18 years but although he was a great
sufferer he was of a cheerful and genial disposition.
His son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Cave,
with whom he had made his home for 21 years, cared for
him faithfully and tenderly during his long years of
illness. He was a G.A.R. veteran having enlisted in Co
G. 27th infantry of Michigan volunteers in 1863 and
served until the end of the war. He was wounded in
three engagements, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor and
Richmond.
His wife died 44 years ago leaving him with one son
Leo, age 4 years. After the death of his wife he moved
from Liberty to Jackson to Gladwin county with his
son. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday
afternoon conducted by Rev. A. J. Preston of
Beaverton. The body was taken to Liberty, Michigan,
where he was laid to rest beside his wife. Pallbearers
were Allen Sinmons, Geo. Councell, N. Haviland, D. D.
Marshall, C. C. Mack and Keith Councell.
