Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
Charles Cardwell

   Charles Clifford Cardwell (Cliff) of Gladwin went home to be with the Lord on Feb.7 2006 in Pensacola, Florida. There are no words that can describe how he will be missed. Cliff was born Nov 2, 1931 in Warrior Mine, West Virginia to the late Albert Lindsey Cardwell and Louise Bowling Cardwell. He graduated from Bluefield High School and joined the United States Navy, became a Corpsman and was attached to the Marines. He served from 1951 to 1955. After his discharge he married Betty Dollinger in Narrows VA. And Moved to Royal Oak, MI where they started their family and started making what would become lifelong friendships. Cliff went to work for Schenck Pegasus where he spent 37 years. He moved his family to Clawson MI. in 1964 where he and Betty stayed until 1998 when they retired to Gladwin, MI where they loved to golf and spend time with friends and family. Cliff enjoyed camping with his family and friends and made it a point to see as much of the country as possible during summer vacations. He loved golfing with his wife and friends at Sugar Springs and other area Golf courses. He also loved fishing, lakes or streams it didn’t matter. The last 30 years he looked forward to fishing trips to Erringtons Wilderness Island in Ontario Canada where he had made even more friends. The past seven years Cliff and Betty have joined a group of snowbirds from Gladwin. that enjoyed winters in the Destin, Fl area where they spent time golfing and enjoying life and friends. Wherever he was he enjoyed the folks he was with and the times spent together.

   Cliff is survived by his wife Betty and sons Craig (Cindy) Cardwell of Crossville, Tennessee. And Bruce Cardwell of Muskegon; grandchildren Heather (Jason) Mayfield of Croswell, Nathan Cardwell of Crossville, Tennessee, Steven Dey of Langley AFB Hampton, Virginia; and Pam Dey of Cecil County Maryland, Great-grand Daughter Lily Mayfield of Croswell;. Brothers Albert Cardwell jr (Maxine) of Macon, Georgia, Curtis Cardwell (Lucille) of Calabash, North Carolina, Raymond Cardwell of Narrows, Virginia. and sister Margarette Cardwell Bird (Ben) of Mims Florida., numerous nieces and nephews. A very special adopted family. Rick and Debbie Irving and their children, Jennifer "Jenny" Jeakle (Jake), Kelly Irving and Kyle Irving. And a large family of friends.

   Cliff was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Louise Cardwell, brothers Robert Paul Cardwell, James Franklin Cardwell and a sister, Anna Beatrice Cardwell Sanchez.. There has been a memorial service in Pensacola Florida for friends and family in the Florida area. There will be another memorial service in Michigan later this year.

   In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Cliffs name to the Sugar Springs Memorial Fund. Sugar Springs POA 5477 Worthington Ct. Galdwin, MI. 48624. Or to the Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Inpatient Residence. 10075 Hillview Rd. Pensacola FL. 32514.
