Eldon Capling

ILLNESS FATAL TO ELDON CAPLING

   Eldon O. Capling, 87, Gladwin businessman, died Friday, Oct. 29, in the Clare Nursing Home after an illness of 4 months. Born in Shakespeare, Ont., on August 5, 1895, he came to Gladwin County in 1900. Mr. Capling owned John E. Capling and Son Hardware and in 1970 changed the name to Capling Wallpaper and Paint. He was a veteran of World War I and was a Gladwin volunteer fireman from 1919 until retiring in 1966. He was the World War I member on the Gladwin County Veterans Affairs board and a member of the Gladwin County Methodist Church, World War I Barracks, VFW Nov. 7303, Masonic Lodge, Bay City Consistory and the Gladwin I.O.O.F Lodge. He was married to the former Gurnith Bowerman on July 27, 1935, in Standish.

   Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, John of Smithville, Tenn.; 2 daughters, Janith Capling and Mrs. Richard (Marilee) Cramton of Saginaw; and 3 grandchildren. Services were held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel. The Rev. Donald Bates officiated and burial was in th Highland Cemetery. A Masonic Memorial Service was held Sunday at 7 p.m.
