MYRON BUTMAN
DEATH OF MYRON BUTMAN PROMINENT RESIDENT OF SAGINAW SINCE 1855---HAD LARGE INTERESTS IN GLADWIN COUNTY.

Myron Butman, a prominent resident and one of Saginaw's earliest citizens, died at his residence in that city at 12:30 a.m., Jan. 10, as the immediate result of an attack of pneumonia, from which he had been seriously ill but a few days, although his general health had been poor for the last few years. Mr. Butman was well known in Gladwin county, where he had large business interests, having conducted extensive logging operations here in years gone by.

The greater part of his business here was in partnership with the late Amasa Rust. He was also associated in business with Samuel H. Webster and James Hay, of Saginaw, now deceased, and for a number of years was president of the Bank of Saginaw. Mr. Butman and the gentleman named stood as towers of strength and honor in the business world.

As the active member of the firm of Butman & Rust, Mr. Butman was best known in this county, and was held in high esteem by the many with whom the firm had business relations. In him Gladwin county loses a friend who was always ready to help advance its interests by word and deed.

Butman township and the postoffice at Butman, this county, were named in his honor. The "Butman farm", in Gladwin township, now owned by W. B. Spike, one of the finest farms in the county, was planned under his supervision.

Mr. Butman was born in Milan, O., October 5, 1826, and was educated at Hurson Institute, Erie county, O. In 1854 he went to Chicago, and in 1855 to Saginaw, which has since been his home. He was married at Bloomfield, N. Y., in 1847, to Mary Pauline Adams, who survives him, as does also their only daughter, Mrs. W. S. Fish. Mr. Butman was a member of Saginaw lodge No. 154, F. & A.M., and for 30 years served as vestryman of St. John's Episcopal church at Saginaw. The funeral services were according to the burial service of the Episcopal church..
